Don't be like Cher... and wish you could turn back time

Late last year, the Commonwealth Bank commissioned research into what 18 – 40 year olds thought about super. And the results are interesting!
- 59% of respondents said that they don’t think of super as their money
- 56% don’t understand how super can be a tax-effective investment
- Somewhat unsurprisingly given the above, only 15% would invest an unexpected $1000 gift in their super
- 86% think they could know more about super, particularly how to make the most of their super.
The scary thing with this research is that strategies employed when you’re young will reap the most reward when it comes to retirement time - and can dramatically bring that date forward. So if the current generation of young people don’t understand super or how they can maximise it, they will invariably be missing out on golden opportunities – and then down the track, wish they could turn back time.
